Cathedral Ranges

‘What ya up to today?’
“Nothing, you?’
‘Today?’
‘Yeeeeeees.’
“Mmmm why not.’
‘Cathedrals?'
Traditional Self timer shot!

After what seemed like eternity Mikayla she finally answered her phone and half a plan was organised. I grabbed my DSLR, first aid kit and of course my phone threw it into a backpack and jumped into my car. Twenty minutes later I was arrived at Mikki’s to find her scrambling around to get the last of what she needed. We left, only to turn around down the road as we forgot her water bottle which she specifically found and filled to bring.

On the road again we made our way to the Cathedrals stopping off at Healesville to grab some snacks for the walk. Heading out of the Valley and winding our way through the spur the weather started to turn. What was once a beautiful day was now overcast with a large potential for rain.

An hour later the weather remained stable and we turned off the highway and made our way onto the Cathedrals. Rumbling along the road we arrived at an empty Sugarloaf Saddle Carpark. A quick decision was made to leave our raincoats behind and try our luck and we set off. Heading up Wells Cave Track we began to walk our way up. After about fifteen minutes of walking we came to the base of where we’d start climbing up the rocks.

To best describe the track it’s divided up into three sections. Part one, which is walking to the base of the rock face and beginning the less hairy climb. Part two, where you are squeezing through rocks which has formed a cave and you wiggle through to the other side. Part three, where it is more exposed and unforgiving as you make your way to the top.  The rock scrambling and generally making your way up the rocks is overall easy if you are of an average amount of fitness and weight. Climbing up we’d stop for a moment to take a couple of snaps or to have a swig of water and continue on but overall it took us thirty mins to reach the top excluding break times.

At the top we were treated to some icy winds and a decent view coinciding the day we were having. Even though it was freezing we stayed up there for an hour before heading our way back down Canyon Track. The weather had set in and it was drizzling the whole way down. Walking and climbing down the track whilst wet is recommended as we did slip half a dozen times. We did make it down safely and didn’t have to pull out my first aid kit once.
All in all it was a good day. We both put to use our cameras and regardless of how the weather looks in the pictures it was worst in person. It was worth doing!

This was just one golden shot of the many self timer classics!
